Nineteen current and former female footballers have successfully completed Module One of the FIFA Coach Education Scholarship: All-Female CAF Licence C Coaching Course at the GFA Technical Centre in Prampram.

The cohort, which includes six active and 13 retired players, is part of the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Women’s Football Strategy. The initiative aims to provide career pathways and employment in coaching for players transitioning out of their active playing careers, while fulfilling the GFA's policy to increase female coaching leadership within Ghanaian women's football.

Retaining Leadership and Experience

The program is designed to equip participants with formal coaching qualifications, ensuring that their competitive experience, leadership, and expertise remain within the sport.

Jennifer Ackah, a participant and player for FC Samartex Ladies, noted the importance of the initiative for retiring athletes:

"When players retire without a pathway, we lose knowledge, leadership, and role models from the game. This coach education provides a structured transition into coaching and ensures that experienced players remain part of football development."

CAF Instructor and former Black Queens head coach Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo also addressed the participants, urging them to use their backgrounds to mentor future athletes:

"Your experience as players is invaluable. Now you have the tools to pass it on properly. You are the bridge between the dreams of young girls and the national teams of tomorrow."
