Ghana’s Men’s 4x100m relay team places 4th in Heat 3 at World Athletics Relays
Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team finished in fourth place during their heat at the World Athletics Relays in Botswana, recording a season-best time of 38.19 seconds.
Despite the performance, the team missed out on immediate qualification for the final.
The national quartet consisted of Abdul Rasheed Saminu, Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Paul Amoah, and Edwin Gadayi.
Saminu opened the race with a strong first leg, followed by Azamati on the second leg, where a difficult baton exchange impacted the team's momentum. Amoah completed the third leg before handing over to Gadayi, who anchored the team to the finish line.
South Africa took first place in the heat with a time of 37.68 seconds, while Great Britain secured second place in 38.01 seconds.
Both nations earned qualification for the World Championships in Beijing as a result of their top-two finish.
China ended the race in third place, clocking the same time as Ghana (38.19 seconds), and Nigeria followed in fifth place with a time of 38.31 seconds.
The Ghanaian relay team remains in contention for a spot at next year's World Championships, as they are scheduled to compete in a second round of qualification later in the tournament.
