Motsepe: CAF President arrives in Senegal for talks over AFCON 2025 dispute
CAF president Patrice Motsepe has arrived in Senegal for a high-level visit aimed at addressing tensions following the controversial decision on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Motsepe is expected to hold meetings in Dakar with Senegal’s Head of State Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Football Association president Abdoulaye Fall as efforts continue to manage the fallout between the country and the Confederation of African Football.
The visit comes after CAF’s Appeals Committee ruling on March 17 awarded the 2025 AFCON title to Morocco. The decision has triggered a strong response from Senegal, which has initiated legal action after being stripped of the title.
Talks during the visit are expected to focus on Senegal’s concerns, restoring confidence in CAF’s decision-making processes, and ensuring transparency as the dispute continues to draw attention.
Motsepe’s itinerary also includes official engagements in Dakar, such as a visit to Gorée Island and a working lunch. He is scheduled to address the media at a press conference at 17:30 GMT.
The outcome of the visit is expected to influence the next steps in efforts to resolve the dispute.
