Sudan head coach Kwesi Appiah has dismissed reports linking him with a return to the Ghana national team, stating that the claims are untrue.

Speculation earlier this week suggested the former Black Stars coach was due in Ghana on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, for talks with John Dramani Mahama over the vacant coaching role.

Appiah, however, rejected the reports, clarifying his current whereabouts.

“It’s not true. I am in Saudi Arabia to monitor some Sudanese players,” he told GHANASoccernet.com.

The rumours come after the Ghana Football Association parted ways with Otto Addo on Monday, with just two months to the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Addo’s exit followed successive friendly defeats to Austria and Germany, leading to the search for a new head coach ahead of the tournament.

Appiah, who previously guided Ghana at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, has been cited as a possible replacement.

He was first relieved of his duties in 2015, returned to the role in 2017, but was dismissed again after Ghana’s disappointing campaign at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
