Ghana FA part ways with Otto Addo after poor run

Otto Addo, Black Stars manager

The Ghana Football Association has dismissed Otto Addo as head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars, following a string of disappointing results in recent international friendlies.

The decision comes on the back of a heavy 5–1 defeat to Austria and a 2–1 loss to Germany, extending the team’s losing streak to four matches and raising concerns about performance and direction.

Addo’s departure comes at a critical time as Ghana prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The Black Stars have been drawn into a competitive group alongside Panama, England, and Croatia, heightening the urgency for a turnaround in form.

In a statement, the GFA expressed appreciation to the outgoing coach for his service to the national team.

“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has parted ways with the Head Coach of the senior men’s national team (Black Stars), Otto Addo, effective immediately.

The Association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours,” the statement said.

The Association indicated that it will, in due course, announce a new technical direction for the Black Stars as preparations continue toward upcoming international competitions.
