NSA inaugurates Resource Mobilization and Partnership Committee to drive sustainable sports development
The National Sports Authority (NSA) has inaugurated a five-member Resource Mobilization and Partnership Committee as part of efforts to diversify funding, strengthen partnerships and promote sustainable development of sports in Ghana.
The initiative is aimed at complementing traditional state funding with private-sector partnerships and support from international development agencies to provide the resources needed to develop athletes and the country’s 58 sports federations and associations.
Addressing the media at the inauguration, Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority, Prof. Awaah, said the committee would play a critical role in applying modern management practices to the administration of sports.
He explained that the committee’s mandate would focus on mobilising key resources, including human capital, equipment, funding, modern methods, suitable sporting environments and early talent development.
According to him, Ghana needs to identify and develop talented athletes across all sporting disciplines while ensuring they have access to appropriate equipment and facilities capable of preparing them for international competitions.
Prof. Awaah noted that inadequate financing remains a major challenge to sports development and stressed the need for the NSA to explore innovative ways of generating sustainable revenue.
He also highlighted the need to improve sporting environments, including pitches and other facilities, to create conditions conducive to athlete development and competitive sports.
The Board Chairman said the committee must also ensure that athletes are identified and nurtured at the appropriate age, stressing that early talent development is essential to building a strong pipeline of future champions.
The committee was constituted following a resolution of the NSA Governing Board at its second quarterly session on June 12, 2026.
It is chaired by Mr. Sampson Dean, with Mr. Yao Ampofo Ankra serving as Co-Chairperson. The other members are Anja Zenabu Suleman, Avhayimuta Wakili Iji and Mavis Eguia Enyama Quino, who also serves as Secretary.
Prof. Awaah charged the members to strictly adhere to their terms of reference, pursue strategic partnerships aggressively, promote sustainability and ensure transparency in the management of mobilised resources.
He urged the committee to view its assignment as an opportunity to leave a lasting impact on Ghana’s sports sector rather than merely an administrative responsibility.
Prof. Awaah further assured the committee of the governing board’s full institutional support, saying the board would work with members to address administrative challenges and provide the strategic backing required to achieve their objectives.
He also commended the committee’s chairperson, Mr. Sampson Dean, and his team for securing the venue and logistical support for the inauguration at no cost to the NSA.
He described the gesture as a demonstration of patriotism, selflessness and operational efficiency, adding that such commitment was essential to the transformation of Ghana’s sports sector.
Prof. Awaah also acknowledged the media and strategic partners for their continued support and urged them to remain critical partners in promoting transparency, accountability and the development of sports.
He expressed confidence that the committee’s work would contribute to transforming sports into a vibrant sector capable of generating economic opportunities, empowering the youth and promoting national pride.
