U17 AFCON: Egyptian referee Mahmoud Wafa Mohamed to officiate Ghana v South Africa today
Egyptian referee Mahmoud Wafa Mohamed has been named to officiate the Group D match between Ghana national under-17 football team and South Africa national under-17 football team at the 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The match taking place today, Wednesday, May 20, could determine qualification to the knockout stage and the FIFA U17 World Cup later this year.
CAF confirmed that Tunisian official Yassine Saadaoui will serve as Assistant Referee One, while Egyptian Soliman Mohamed Magdy has been named Assistant Referee Two.
Cameroonian referee Willy Stephane Ngah will act as the fourth referee, while Mahamed Alteer will serve as Reserve Assistant Referee.
Negash Negassi has been appointed Match Commissioner, with Paulin Samuel serving as referees assessor.
The Black Starlets go into the match after their defeat to Senegal in the previous group game.
Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum and his players have continued preparations ahead of the fixture, with victory likely to secure Ghana’s place at the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar later this year.
