A/R:Traders in Kumasi protest over dustbin installation at CBD
Some traders in the Central Business Districts (CBDs) of Kumasi have staged a protest against the installation of dustbins by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), arguing that the initiative is negatively affecting their businesses.
In a viral video spotted by ClassFmonline, a group of visibly frustrated traders were seen confronting officials and expressing their displeasure over the placement of the waste bins directly in front of their shops.
According to the traders, the positioning of the dustbins blocks access to their stalls and reduces visibility for customers, ultimately affecting sales.
Some also raised concerns about potential hygiene issues, stating that the bins could attract unpleasant odours and pests if not properly managed.
We are not against keeping the city clean, but the way these bins are being placed is a problem for us,” one trader was heard saying in the video.
The KMA has in recent months intensified efforts to improve sanitation in Kumasi, including the strategic placement of waste bins across busy commercial areas to encourage proper waste disposal and reduce littering.
