GFZA CEO inspects Afienya Export Processing Zone to boost industrial growth
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Dr Mary Awusi, has led a high-level delegation on an inspection visit to the Authority’s newly designated Export Processing Zone (EPZ) at Afienya in the Greater Accra Region.
The visit, conducted on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, forms part of efforts to operationalise the Afienya EPZ, which spans approximately 1,238 acres and is expected to become a major hub for investment under Ghana’s Free Zones Programme.
According to the CEO, the development comes amid growing investor interest in Ghana, driven by what she describe as a stable investment climate and improved economic management.
The Authority has reported increased enquiries from both local and international investors seeking to establish operations in the country.
To meet this demand, the Afienya EPZ is being strategically developed near the Tema Port to provide serviced industrial land and support Ghana’s export-led industrialisation agenda.
The zone is also expected to operate as Ghana’s first “plug-and-play” export processing facility, offering ready-to-use infrastructure to enable investors to begin operations within shorter timeframes.
GFZA officials indicated that the initiative is expected to boost investor confidence, create jobs, and enhance export growth, while strengthening Ghana’s position as a competitive destination for industrial investment.
Dr. Awusi was accompanied by senior officials of the Authority, including Deputy CEO for Operations Lateef Apau Wiredu, Director of Corporate Affairs Patience Acorlor, and other members of the technical team.
