Dulcie Boateng: True success is when people doubt you
Ghanaian social media influencer Dulcie Boateng, founder of the Accra-based retail exhibition Porials Pitch, has shared her perspective on success and how it is perceived by others.
Speaking at the Porials Pitch Power Talk on April 14, 2026, at Ghud Park in Accra, Dulcie explained that success often becomes questioned when it exceeds ordinary expectations.
She noted that extraordinary achievements are usually dismissed as “settings.”
“We haven’t truly succeeded until people think we’re lying,” she said.
“So when someone claims they made GHS800,000 from TikTok, people will say it’s impossible.
Once they start telling you that what you’re doing can’t be real, that’s when you know you’ve succeeded.”
She illustrated her point with an example: “If you say you bought water, people will believe it because they can buy water too. But if you say you bought a private jet, they’ll doubt you because they can’t afford one.”
Dulcie encouraged vendors preparing for the next Porials Pitch event on April 18, 2026, to approach it with determination and intensity.
She urged them to aim for earnings that would make others question their success.
“I need all of you to go hard on Saturday. Be market women, because the people coming have money in their pockets and you need to collect it.
Go home and count money that others won’t believe you made in a single day. If they don’t call your money ‘settings,’ then you haven’t made it in life,” she concluded
