Ghana is positioning its tourism and creative arts sectors to capitalise on opportunities presented by the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, with government intensifying strategic engagements to maximise economic impact.

The Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Yussif Issaka Jajah, has held discussions with the Bureau for International Development, Exchange and Commerce (BIDEC) and other stakeholders to align Ghana’s participation strategy.

The talks focused on leveraging the global tournament beyond football by promoting Ghana’s tourism, culture and creative arts industries through targeted activations in key United States host cities, including Atlanta and Philadelphia.

As part of preparations, government has established a ministerial task force and a technical committee to coordinate activities and explore innovative partnerships aimed at delivering long-term benefits from the tournament.

Stakeholders, including representatives from the Atlanta Black Chamber of Commerce, proposed a range of initiatives such as cultural showcases, business forums and the creation of a “Ghana Village” experience. These interventions are expected to deepen diaspora engagement, attract investment and boost Ghana’s visibility on the global stage.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to position Ghana as a leading destination for tourism and cultural exchange in the lead-up to one of the world’s most-watched sporting events.
