Hiplife legend Okyeame Kwame has opened up about how he managed to rebuild his career after what he describes as a period of decline in his music journey.

Speaking on Class 91.3 FM’s Class Drive with Nana Lion, the rapper was asked how he was able to stage a successful comeback after “falling off” the mainstream spotlight.

In response, Okyeame Kwame  shared insights into his preference for working with younger people rather than colleagues of his own age, saying it keeps him connected to modern ideas and evolving culture.

The rapper said he intentionally surrounds himself with a “strong young team,” explaining that their energy and perspective help shape his creative and business decisions.

“I don’t like working with people my age,” he said, adding that he also rarely takes advice from people older than him.

He explained that younger people tend to be more in tune with current trends and the “zeitgeist” of the moment.

According to him, working with young professionals has been key to his continued relevance in the entertainment industry. He highlighted one former social media assistant, Jacob, as an example, saying he started working for him in his early twenties and has since gone on to build a successful tech company.

He noted that many of the young people he has worked with have grown into entrepreneurs and industry professionals, which he finds rewarding.

Okyeame Kwame also admitted that while he sometimes struggles with advice due to ego, he ultimately remains open to learning from younger voices, including fashion and styling input from his close young collaborators.

“I accept that I have done my part when I was young enough to influence culture,” he said. “Now I need to let culture influence me.”

He added that although he occasionally resists advice, he often comes back to it later and applies it.

The rapper concluded that surrounding himself with young creatives has not only kept him relevant but also allowed him to mentor others who are now building their own successful careers.
