66 Artillery Regiment marks 60 years of dedicated service with grand anniversary celebration in Ho
The Commanding Officer of the 66 Artillery Regiment, Lt. Col. Jalali Din Ibrahim, has commended officers, soldiers, and civilian staff of the regiment for their unwavering dedication to national service as the unit marked its 60th anniversary in Ho.
Speaking at a grand durbar to commemorate the milestone, Lt. Col. Ibrahim described the occasion as not only a celebration of time but a recognition of a legacy built on service, sacrifice, and commitment to duty over six decades.
“This anniversary is not merely about the passage of time, but about celebrating a legacy of service, sacrifice, and duty faithfully discharged,” he stated, referencing the anniversary theme, “Six Decades of Dedicated Service.”
He traced the regiment’s history from its establishment 60 years ago as a medium mortar unit to its current status as a modern artillery formation, emphasizing its consistent commitment to discipline, professionalism, and national defense.
According to him, generations of officers and soldiers have contributed to the regiment’s growth through rigorous training, demanding operations, and steadfast service to Ghana, laying a strong foundation for future progress.
Lt. Col. Ibrahim highlighted training as the bedrock of the regiment’s operational effectiveness, noting that the artillery profession requires precision, technical expertise, and teamwork. He assured that the regiment continues to invest in capacity building to remain responsive to evolving security threats.
He further acknowledged the changing nature of security challenges, stressing the need for adaptability, innovation, and unity in addressing emerging threats driven by technological advancement and shifting global dynamics.
The Commanding Officer also underscored the expanded role of the regiment beyond its core artillery functions, pointing to its involvement in internal security operations in the Volta and Oti Regions. He praised personnel for demonstrating restraint, discipline, and professionalism in these operations.
On the international front, he lauded the regiment’s contributions to peacekeeping missions under ECOMOG and the United Nations in countries including Liberia, Sierra Leone, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lebanon, and South Sudan. He noted that Ghanaian troops served with courage and distinction, often under dangerous conditions.
“We honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice and those who returned with lasting memories and scars of service. Their contributions remain an enduring pillar upon which peace stands,” he said.
Lt. Col. Ibrahim also paid tribute to retired officers and soldiers, warmly welcoming them back to the regiment whose history they helped shape. He acknowledged their sacrifices and enduring legacy, describing the regiment as their permanent home.
He expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces, the 16 Artillery Brigade, sister security agencies, civilian authorities, traditional leaders, and the people of Ho and its environs for their continuous support and cooperation, noting that strong civil-military relations remain vital to national security.
Special recognition was also given to families of military personnel, whose sacrifices often go unnoticed. He noted that spouses, children, and parents play a crucial role in supporting service members.
The Commanding Officer further commended sponsors, partners, and the anniversary planning committee for their contributions to the successful celebration.
He concluded by urging officers and soldiers to renew their commitment to integrity, discipline, loyalty, and professionalism, emphasizing that the true strength of the regiment lies not in equipment but in its people.
“As we mark 60 years, let us resolve to build upon what we have inherited and leave behind a regiment that is stronger, more professional, and more respected,” he said.
