The Managing Editor of Twenty-Four Hour Newspaper, Cephas Mensah, has formally written to Gold Fields Ghana seeking clarification over the non-construction of inner roads in the Damang township, despite earlier commitments under a Stability Agreement with the Government of Ghana.

In the letter addressed to the Managing Director of the company, the newspaper raised concerns that the road project, which formed part of Corporate Social Responsibility commitments to host communities, has not been executed.

According to the correspondence, the commitment to construct and rehabilitate inner roads in Damang was reiterated during stakeholder engagements involving the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Assembly and traditional authorities.

However, checks by the newspaper indicate that the roads remain unconstructed and are in deteriorating condition, causing hardship for residents.

The situation, the letter noted, has led to increased transportation costs and limited access to essential services such as markets, schools, and healthcare facilities.

The paper has therefore requested the company to provide clarification on the status of the project, explain the delay in its execution, and outline a clear timeline for commencement and completion.

The letter further urged the company to respond within three working days, citing the urgency and public interest surrounding the issue.

A copy of the letter was also forwarded to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, as calls grow for accountability in the implementation of community development commitments tied to mining operations.
