The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has announced the full restoration of all generating units at the Akosombo Dam in the Eastern Region.

In a Facebook post on Friday, May 1, the Minister described the development as a major milestone following recent disruptions to the power system.

“Mission accomplished. All generation units are now back in service,” he stated.

Dr. Jinapor noted that the restoration was achieved despite significant challenges, with engineers, technicians and emergency teams working around the clock to stabilise the national grid.

He indicated that their dedication and professionalism have ensured the restoration of power and improved system stability.

The Minister expressed appreciation to key institutions including the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), the Volta River Authority (VRA), and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), as well as other supporting agencies for their coordinated efforts.

He emphasised that the achievement demonstrates Ghana’s capacity to respond effectively to challenges within the energy sector.

The restoration of all units at Akosombo is expected to further stabilise electricity supply nationwide and ease recent power concerns, he concluded.
