Atebubu Paramount Chief appeals for Metro Mass Transit services
The Paramount Chief of the Atebubu Traditional Area, Yeboah Asiamah, has appealed to Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) to extend its transport services to Atebubu and the surrounding communities.
According to the chief, improved access to reliable public transport would enhance economic activity in the area and help reduce post-harvest losses faced by farmers.
Ohempong Dr Asiamah made the appeal during a courtesy call on the Managing Director of MMTL, Kale Cezar.
He highlighted the challenges confronting farmers due to the absence of a major commercial transport system, which often results in financial losses and wastage of produce.
He stressed that the introduction of Metro Mass services would ease the movement of goods and people, while improving livelihoods in the municipality.
The Paramount Chief also commended the leadership of the company and urged management to remain committed to transforming Ghana’s transport sector in line with the government’s development agenda.
In response, Mr Cezar outlined a number of measures being implemented to improve operations at MMTL, including salary enhancements, staff welfare improvements and incentive packages aimed at boosting morale.
He further disclosed that the company is expecting a new fleet of buses, with the first batch scheduled to arrive by the end of March 2026, followed by additional units in the coming months.
Mr Cezar assured the chief that MMTL plans to begin operations along the Atebubu route and establish a branch office in the municipality to serve residents and nearby communities.
He added that the company will soon introduce cargo vehicles to support farmers and traders by facilitating the safe and efficient transportation of goods, a move expected to strengthen the agricultural value chain and improve economic outcomes in the area.
Metro Mass Transit Limited is a state-owned transport provider focused on delivering affordable and reliable services across the country, as part of efforts to support national development.
