A/R: Police arrest 3 suspects in Asawase Kusasi chief killing
Police in the Ashanti South Region have taken three individuals into custody in connection with the July 2025 killing of the Kusasi Chief in Asawase.
The arrested suspects are Jamil Usman (also called Babamu or Guru), Suleman Yasir Arafat (Obasanjo), and Ashiadu Sumbeida (Eyeshadow).
During a media briefing in Bekwai on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, the Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, said the suspects will be transferred to the Ashanti Regional Police Command for further investigation.
He added that another key suspect, Illiasu (Abodam), remains at large and urged the public to share information that could lead to his capture.
Police also recovered a collection of firearms and ammunition, including: two AK-47 rifles, a pump-action gun, two pistols, and 44 rounds of .32 ammunition, highlighting the scale of the operation.
DCOP Nyaaba said the arrests demonstrate the police’s commitment to tackling violent crime in the region.
He commended the officers involved for their professionalism and thanked members of the public who provided information that helped make the arrests, while also expressing gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian T. Yohuno, for ongoing support.
