A tragic bee attack has claimed the life of a three-year-old boy and left nine others injured at Wawase, a suburb of Agona Swedru, casting a pall of grief over the community.

The victim, identified as Christopher Amponsah, died after a swarm of bees descended on residents around 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2026. The incident has shocked residents and heightened concerns across the Agona West Municipalityfollowing a recent spate of similar attacks.

According to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), 10 people were affected by the swarm.

While 9 victims sustained varying degrees of injuries from multiple stings, they are currently receiving treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and NADMO were deployed in a coordinated emergency response to contain the situation. Authorities confirmed by Saturday morning that the swarm had been neutralised and the area secured.

The incident marks the second fatal bee attack recorded in the Central Region within a week. Earlier, a female student at a private senior high school in Winneba also lost her life under similar circumstances.

The Municipal Director of NADMO, Charles K. Agbavitor, led a delegation to the affected community on Saturday to assess possible environmental triggers and extend condolences to the bereaved family.

Authorities have since issued a public safety advisory, urging residents to avoid disturbing beehives and to promptly report unusual bee activity to emergency services.

Experts attribute such incidents to environmental factors, including changing weather conditions and habitat disruption, which can force bee colonies to migrate into residential areas in search of new nesting sites.
