A new legal dispute has emerged in the protracted Sampa chieftaincy conflict, with an application filed at the Kumasi High Court seeking to commit a rival claimant to prison for alleged contempt of court.

The application targets Randolf Obah, who is said to be presenting himself as Nana Yaw Sammordua, over claims that he has defied court orders concerning the rightful occupant of the Sampa Paramount Stool.

The motion was filed by Nana Samgba Gyafla II, known in private life as Justice Emmanuel Ankamah, who maintains that he is the duly recognised Paramount Chief of the Sampa Traditional Area.

According to court documents, the applicant asserts that he was validly nominated, elected, and installed as Paramount Chief following an arbitral award issued on June 22, 2023, under the authority of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The affidavit further indicates that subsequent court rulings affirmed his position, including a mandamus order directing that his name be entered into the National Register of Chiefs.

The order, issued in September 2025, was reportedly complied with.

However, the applicant alleges that despite these legal determinations, the respondent has continued to present himself publicly as the Paramount Chief of Sampa.

The filing cites several alleged instances of contempt, including participation in public ceremonies and official events while assuming the role of chief.

It also claims that these actions have contributed to tensions within the Sampa Traditional Area.

The applicant argues that such conduct undermines the authority of the court and is seeking a custodial sentence against the respondent as a deterrent.

The case, filed by legal counsel Mujeeb Rahman Ahmed of Moomin & Botta Solicitors, is expected to be heard at the Kumasi High Court later this month.
