ECG, GRIDCo inspect Asiekpe BSP to address power challenges in Volta, Oti regions
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), in collaboration with the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), has conducted a joint technical tour of the Asiekpe Bulk Supply Point (BSP) in the Volta Region to address ongoing voltage challenges and improve electricity supply.
The visit brought together the Volta Regional Minister, engineers, and technical teams from both institutions to assess conditions at the facility and identify practical solutions to improve power reliability.
Residents in the Volta and Oti Regions have for years experienced low voltage and intermittent outages, particularly in the evenings, affecting businesses and households. Some institutions have also reported damage to equipment due to unstable power supply.

Speaking to the media, Acting Managing Director of ECG, Ing. Kwame Kpekpena, said plans are underway to construct a temporary substation at Asiekpe as part of efforts to stabilise voltage.
He added that the project, along with other technical interventions by ECG and GRIDCo, is expected to significantly improve electricity supply in the two regions.
Ing. Kpekpena also appealed to the Volta Regional Minister to support the acquisition of land for a permanent bulk supply point, noting that two potential sites have already been identified.
He explained that the current 69 kilovolt capacity serving the region is inadequate, but the addition of two new substations will increase capacity to 161 kilovolts and help address the power challenges.
He assured that government will compensate affected landowners and urged residents to remain patient as work continues.
Acting Deputy Chief Executive of GRIDCo, Ing. Frank Otchere, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to completing the substation project on schedule and called for support from the regional minister and traditional authorities.
The Volta Regional Minister assured both institutions of government’s support in facilitating the projects and commended their collaboration in addressing the region’s power challenges.
