Effutu Member of Parliament (MP) Alexander Afenyo-Markin and Gomoa Central MP Kwame Asare-Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, have appealed for calm following the deadly disturbance in the Effutu-Gomoa area.

The disturbance, which was linked to a reported land dispute on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, resulted in the deaths of three people and the arrest of at least 15 others.

Speaking together in a video sighted by classfmonline.com, the two MPs said they were committed to working with residents and traditional leaders to restore peace and prevent a recurrence of the violence.

Mr Afenyo-Markin and A-Plus described each other as brothers, and said they were united in their efforts to promote the development of Effutu and Gomoa.

“Effutu and Gomoa, we all know the disturbance we experience recently. Kwame is my little brother who is now in Parliament and together, we are working to ensure the development of Gomoa and Effutu,” Mr Afenyo-Markin said.

He urged residents to remain calm and patient.

“Anger comes with a lot of other troubling issues but we want to assure you that we the MPs of these areas are dedicated to ensuring peace reigns to end all troubles. We urge you all to keep calm and be patient,” he said.

Announcing that he and A-Plus would on Saturday visit various communities in the affected areas to engage constituents, he underscored the shared history of Gomoa and Effutu people, deepening his call for peace. 

“We are one, and from the same womb,” he said.

Mr Afenyo-Markin also called on traditional leaders and elders to intervene to help restore peace and harmony.

He said the recent chaos should be regarded as a “Tuesday taboo” that must never be revisited.

“Peace to all of us,” he concluded.

A-Plus, who was seated alongside Mr Afenyo-Markin, also called for calm but rejected any suggestion that the people of Effutu and Gomoa as a whole were responsible for the disturbances.

He said that rather, “a group of people who are terrorizing people that we have to deal with”.

A-Plus had earlier alleged that some of the deaths recorded during the September 1 disturbance were caused by police brutality. The allegation has not been independently established.

He said Saturday's visit would include engagements with bereaved families and people caring for relatives who were injured during the disturbance.

“After that we are looking at a road map to implement towards ensuring the cause of such issues will be ended completely,” he said.

He added: “I'm all for it. You'll see us this weekend. I ask for everyone to be patient as our leader is ready to ensure that truth and justice will prevail.”
