The District Chief Executive for Kwahu East, Samuel Asamoah, has urged Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the district to make productive use of items provided to them under the Assembly’s Disability Fund to improve their livelihoods.

He said the intervention was intended to create economic opportunities for beneficiaries and help them become more self-reliant.

Speaking at a presentation ceremony, Mr. Asamoah encouraged the beneficiaries to take good care of the items and use them strictly for their intended purposes.

The Kwahu East District Assembly distributed various items, including freezers with ice chests, popcorn machines, pumping machines, fufu pounding machines and onion grinding machines to selected PWDs.

According to the DCE, the Assembly would monitor the beneficiaries to assess the impact of the intervention and determine those who are making effective use of the support.

“If you use what has been given to you well and we see that you are making progress, there is the possibility of receiving additional support in the future,” Mr Asamoah added.

He, therefore, urged the beneficiaries not to sell the items but rather use them as a foundation to build sustainable businesses.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Assembly for the intervention, describing it as timely and meaningful.

They, however, appealed for additional support, particularly for single mothers with disabilities who struggle to cater for their children and meet their educational needs.

“Some of us are single mothers, and taking care of our children alone is very difficult. We are appealing for more support, especially with our children’s school fees and other basic needs. If we are given more assistance to expand our businesses, it will help us take better care of our children and become independent,” one of the beneficiaries said.

The beneficiaries expressed hope that the initiative would be sustained and extended to more PWDs across the Kwahu East District.
