Four persons have lost their lives in a fatal crash along the Buipe–Tamale highway, the Ghana National Fire Service has confirmed.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Sawaba No. 2, involving a Sprinter Benz bus en route from Buipe to Kumasi and a trailer truck which reportedly fled the scene after the collision.

In a statement, the Service indicated that 19 passengers had already been rushed to the Buipe Government Hospital before fire officers arrived.

Personnel from the Buipe Fire Command later rescued three individuals who had been trapped in the wreckage of the minibus.

The crash claimed four lives—two men and two women—with three victims pronounced dead at the scene and another succumbing to injuries at the hospital.

The remains of those who died on the spot were handed over to the police for preservation and further inquiries.

The Sprinter bus was extensively damaged, with initial reports suggesting the trailer truck triggered the accident before escaping.

The GNFS noted that the prompt response by its team, led by Station Officer II Abubakar M. Sheriff, helped avert additional fatalities and ensured that survivors received immediate medical care.

In a separate development on the same day, the Service responded to a residential fire outbreak at Ashaiman Tulaku, near the Ghana Water area along the Gulf City Road.

Firefighters from Ashaiman, Motorway, Tema Regional Headquarters, and Industrial fire stations, with support from a municipal water tanker, battled the blaze for nearly three hours before bringing it under control.

The fire destroyed several wooden structures and partially affected six metal containers. However, seven metal containers, eight wooden structures, and an ECG pylon were successfully saved.

No casualties were recorded in the fire incident, and authorities say investigations are underway to determine its cause. Senior officers, including Tema Regional Commander ACFO II Patrick Sallah, were present to oversee the operation.
