GAF escort convoy attacked in Binduri leaves civilians dead, suspects arrested

An escort convoy of the Ghana Armed Forces protecting civilians has been attacked at Binduri.

The incident occurred on Monday, May 27, 2026, when the convoy, which was escorting about 140 civilians from Bawkuto Bolgatanga, came under gunfire from unknown assailants.

According to the military, the attack resulted in the deaths of three civilians, while one other person sustained injuries.

The armed forces said they repelled the attack, leading to the death of seven of the attackers.

During a follow-up operation, personnel retrieved a G3 automatic rifle, two loaded magazines and 176 rounds of ammunition from an individual who reportedly fled into a mosque. Ten other suspects have since been arrested and are assisting with investigations.

The Ghana Armed Forces has cautioned the public against interfering with security operations and extended condolences to the families of the deceased, while wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
