The Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) has called for deeper collaboration with civil society organisations, emphasizing that accountability and dialogue are central to managing Ghana’s mineral wealth for current and future generations.

The call was made by MIIF Chief Executive Officer Mrs. Justina Nelson during a stakeholder engagement session held in Accra.

“MIIF does not exist because of an Act alone.

It exists because beneath our soil there are resources that belong to the people of Ghana, not just for today, but for generations we may not even meet,” Mrs. Nelson said.

“Stewardship of this mandate is not just a technical exercise.

It comes with a moral responsibility.”

She described the session as the beginning of sustained engagement rather than a one-off event.

“Today, we did not just gather here to present slides. We are not just exchanging strong opinions. We see this as the beginning of a relationship,” she noted.

“Prosperity needs partners, accountability needs voices, and national wealth needs conscience. Civil society has always been the conscience of our democracy, and we receive that role with respect, not defensiveness,” Mrs. Nelson added.

MIIF is currently repositioning itself as a world-class sovereign minerals fund through prudent investment and risk management. Its goal is to deliver value through investments that create jobs, strengthen industries, and leave government stronger.

Addressing transparency, Mrs. Nelson stated: “We know that trust is not given.

It is earned, and we are ready to earn it quietly.”

She welcomed scrutiny from civil society partners.

“When you challenge us, you strengthen us. When you hold us accountable, you protect the future for us. History will not measure us by how much we earned but by what Ghana becomes because of what we’ve earned.”

Mrs. Nelson concluded by thanking participants “for your courage, your candor, and your commitment to public good,” adding, “We leave this room more accountable and more determined to do right by Ghana and by generations to come.”
