GMet warns of thunderstorms, strong winds along coastal areas
The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued an impact-based weather alert warning of thunderstorms and strong winds affecting several parts of the country, particularly along the coast and southern regions.
In its latest update issued on April 28, 2026, the Agency indicated that localised rain-bearing clouds have already triggered cloudy conditions and are producing thunderstorms along Ghana’s belt.
According to GMet, regions expected to be affected include Greater Accra, Volta, Eastern, Central and Western Regions, with conditions likely to intensify within the next few hours.
The forecast highlights a moderate to high risk of impact, with strong winds expected to accompany the thunderstorms, posing potential hazards to life and property.
The Agency has advised residents in affected areas to take precautionary measures, remain alert and prepare for possible disruptions, especially in communities prone to flooding or storm-related damage.
GMet further noted that while some areas may experience reduced risk levels over time, the evolving nature of the weather system requires continuous monitoring.
Authorities are urging the public to stay informed through official weather updates and to adhere to safety guidelines as conditions develop.
