GPRTU, GRTCC request review of public transport fares

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) have formally petitioned the Ministry of Transport for a review of public transport fares.

The two transport bodies say the request has been made in accordance with the Administrative Instrument that guides the determination and review of fares for commercial road transport services.

In a joint statement, the groups explained that the process is part of the established consultative mechanism through which public transport fares are assessed and reviewed.

They said the process takes into consideration the various factors and operational costs involved in running commercial road transport services.

The latest request is expected to trigger consultations between the transport unions and the Ministry of Transport to determine whether existing fares should be adjusted.

The GPRTU and GRTCC have not, however, announced any new fares, stressing that the review process must follow the prescribed administrative and consultative procedures.
