The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho Central, Richmond Edem Kofi Kpotosu has supported selected first-year Senior High School (SHS) students in the constituency with essential items to ease the financial burden on their parents and guardians.

The intervention, made under his “Viva Support” initiative, benefited about 250 brilliant but needy students and was held at the Ho Ahoe Community Centre on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. 

The items included mattresses, plastic trunks, chop boxes, bags of groceries and learning materials.

“The initiative was part of my commitment to ensuring that no child in the Ho Central Constituency was denied the opportunity to pursue secondary education because of financial difficulties,” he stated. 

He said although the cost of education continued to put pressure on families, failing to invest in education would have more serious consequences for the future of the children and the constituency. 

“It’s expensive, but if you try ignorance, you’re worse off. So, as the people’s representative, one of my duties is to help my children progress on the ladder of education,” he noted.

The MP added that the items constituted a modest but meaningful intervention to help the beneficiaries begin their SHS education with some of the basic requirements needed. 

He explained that the decision to provide plastic trunks was partly influenced by concerns over bedbug infestation associated with some wooden boxes used by students.

Mr Kpotosu disclosed that his initial target was between 200 and 300 beneficiaries with about 200 to 250 students expected to benefit from the first phase. 

He stated that the programme would be expanded to provide additional support including scholarships for brilliant but needy students and other interventions made to improve school infrastructure in the constituency.

He urged the beneficiaries to take their education seriously and justify the support by demonstrating discipline, hard work and good conduct.

“You have a responsibility to make the Ho Central Constituency proud by excelling academically and eventually contributing to the development of the constituency and the country.”

The Ho Municipal Director of Education, Dr Esther Adzimah Yeboah, also urged the students to remain committed to their studies and make good use of the opportunity provided them. 

She appealed to parents and guardians to take an active interest in the education and welfare of their wards, stressing that investment in education was an investment in their future.

Dr Yeboah expressed appreciation to the MP for supporting children from needy backgrounds and urged the beneficiaries to value the assistance. 

Mr Kpotosu, meanwhile, reaffirmed his commitment to his “Service, Development and Empowerment” agenda, saying he would continue to support initiatives aimed at creating opportunities for young people and easing the burden on households in Ho Central.
