Ghana Bar Association rejects claims of NPP political alignment
The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has dismissed allegations that it is aligned with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), calling the claims inaccurate, unfair, and disappointing.
The response follows criticism from the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who accused the GBA of staying silent after Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin allegedly made a verbal attack on a judge.
The judge is handling a case involving Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, the NPP Bono Regional Chairman.
Speaking in an interview on Citi Eyewitness News, GBA Spokesperson Saviour Kudze explained that the association was already preparing a statement on the matter and urged the public not to rush to conclusions.
He noted that the incident had come to their attention less than 24 hours prior, and the delay in releasing the official statement was solely due to internal consultations with the officials required to sign it.
Kudze stated that he granted the interview to address the urgency of the matter and the conduct of the Minority Leader, who is a lawyer, while the final statement was being processed.
Kudze strongly denied the perception that the GBA operates as a political wing of the NPP. He emphasized that political affiliation is never requested or considered when lawyers register for membership with the association.
While acknowledging that individuals are entitled to their opinions and perceptions, he maintained that the GBA is not biased toward any political party.
He concluded by urging the public to move past political speculation and instead focus on critical national challenges, such as sanitation, illegal mining, and water shortages.
