The Government of the Republic of Ghana has expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation in the Sahel region following coordinated terrorist attacks on Saturday, 25 April 2026, targeting several military installations in Mali, including the capital city, Bamako.

According to the statement, the attacks resulted in the death of Mali’s Minister of Defence, General Sadio Camara, alongside several military personnel and civilians.

The Government of Ghana extended its condolences to the Government and people of the Republic of Mali, expressing sympathy for the loss of lives and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

It strongly condemned the attacks, stressing that violent extremism “must have no place in our world,” and called for intensified collective action to combat terrorism and restore peace across the Sahel region.

Ghana further advised its nationals residing in Mali to remain vigilant, exercise caution, and limit all non-essential movements. Citizens have also been urged to maintain regular contact with the Embassy of Ghana in Bamako for updates and assistance.

In addition, Ghanaian traders and commercial drivers operating along the Mali route have been advised to suspend all movements until further notice, as authorities work to stabilise the situation.

The Government of Ghana indicated that it is collaborating closely with relevant Malian authorities to monitor developments and will provide timely updates to facilitate the safe resumption of trade and cross-border activities.
