The Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has reaffirmed President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to establishing Farmer Services Centres across 50 agricultural districts to enhance service delivery and support farmers nationwide.

According to the Minister, the initiative forms part of government’s broader strategy to modernise agriculture and improve productivity through mechanisation and access to essential farming services.

He disclosed that the centres will be equipped with more than 4,000 pieces of agricultural machinery, including 660 tractors, 200 tractor trailers, and 200 mini tractors.

The equipment package also features a wide range of implements such as ploughs, harrows, cultivators, boom sprayers, seed drills, fertilizer spreaders, and combine harvesters with specialised headers for maize and soy.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu noted that the facilities are designed to provide comprehensive mechanised services to farmers, reducing the burden of manual labour while improving efficiency and yields.

He further revealed that the President recently cut sod for the commencement of the project at Afram Plains, marking the official start of construction works.

The Farmer Services Centres are expected to play a critical role in strengthening Ghana’s agricultural value chain, supporting food security efforts, and positioning the sector as a key driver of economic growth.
