Gov't to introduce whatsApp system for reporting power outages

News
Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor,

The government is set to introduce a digital platform that will enable Ghanaians to report power outages via WhatsApp, allowing for faster detection of faults and quicker response from technical teams.

According to the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, the initiative is designed to address delays linked to traditional call centres and enhance communication between electricity providers and consumers.

Speaking on the final day of the President’s tour of the Northern Region, Dr Jinapor indicated that efforts are underway to strengthen the electricity, renewable energy, and petroleum sectors, while also improving customer engagement.

He explained that the new system will eliminate the need for customers to place phone calls when reporting outages. Instead, users will be able to send a WhatsApp message with their location, prompting a rapid response from field personnel to resolve the issue.

The initiative represents a move toward real-time service delivery, with officials expecting it to reduce downtime and significantly enhance user experience in power distribution.

It is also anticipated to boost digital interaction within the energy sector, as government adopts mobile technology to address longstanding challenges in fault reporting and response times.
