The Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Mohammed Abdul-Salam, has provided an update on the ongoing review of the Authority’s contractual agreement with KGL Technology Limited, following a directive from the Presidency.

Speaking on Accra-based Channel One TV on Tuesday, April 21, Mr. Abdul-Salam explained that the review process involved multiple state institutions, including the Ministry of Finance, the Attorney-General’s Department, and the Presidency.

He disclosed that the NLA Board initially sought legal guidance from the Attorney-General on the agreement, after which the Presidency directed the formation of a committee to conduct a comprehensive review.

According to him, the committee has completed its work, and the Presidency has since affirmed that the NLA has the legal mandate to enter into partnerships with private entities such as KGL for regulatory and operational purposes within the lottery sector.

However, Mr. Abdul-Salam indicated that concerns remain over the current revenue-sharing structure, stressing that the Authority believes the State should derive greater financial benefit from the agreement.

He noted that negotiations are currently ongoing to revise the terms of the contract, with the aim of improving returns to the State and ensuring a more favourable revenue arrangement.

The review forms part of broader efforts to enhance transparency and maximise public value within Ghana’s lottery and gaming sector, he concluded.
