Ketu North MP defends SIC Managing Director, praises reform drive
The Member of Parliament for Ketu North Constituency in the Volta Region, Edem Agbana, has come to the defence of the Managing Director(MD) of SIC Insurance Company, Mr James Agyenim-Boateng, amid ongoing discussions about the operations of the state-owned insurer.
According to Mr Agbana, the current leadership of SIC is driving a significant shift from the traditional approach associated with many public institutions, emphasising efficiency, competitiveness, and results.
He noted that under Mr Agyenim-Boateng, the company has adopted an aggressive strategy in pursuing insurance contracts, regardless of size, with staff actively engaging potential clients, including individuals seeking vehicle insurance.
“The results they are recording should therefore come as no surprise,” the MP indicated, pointing to what he described as a “genuine reset” within the organisation.
Mr Agbana further praised the Managing Director’s leadership style, describing him as visible, responsive, and committed to exploring innovative approaches, including the use of social media to promote the company’s services.
He argued that the renewed energy at SIC demonstrates that public sector institutions can be proactive and performance-driven when properly led.
The lawmaker also reiterated his long-held view on the need to introduce Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across the public sector, suggesting that promotions and tenure should be tied to measurable performance outcomes.
He maintained that such reforms would help address complacency and low productivity in state institutions, while encouraging accountability and improved service delivery.
