Minority demands suspension of GHS700m NPRA loan facility, raises concerns over alleged financial irregularity
The Minority in Parliament has criticised a decision by the management of the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) to allocate GH¢700 million toward a loan facility for Phase Two of its headquarters project, even though Phase One has reportedly been completed but remains unoccupied despite heavy investment.
Addressing the media in Parliament on Thursday, April 16, 2026, the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, urged the Finance Minister to suspend the arrangement until an independent assessment is conducted.
The caucus also pointed to alleged irregularities currently taking place within the Authority.
Mr Assafuah further claimed that the Director-General, Mr Boadi-Mensah, adjusted his own salary shortly after taking office in February 2025, at a time when the NPRA Board had not yet been constituted.
He additionally alleged that a sum of GH¢4 million was paid to a former NPRA Chief Executive Officer, Kofi Anokye, for consultancy work, which he argues overlaps with the responsibilities of an existing department.
He has therefore called on the President, the Finance Minister, and other relevant stakeholders to step in, ensure accountability, and halt what he describes as the misuse of pension funds.
“We call for the immediate suspension and independent review of the GHC700 million Phase 2 facility proposal associated with Mr. Chris Boadi Mensah’s administration including the necessity repayment terms, pricing basis and long-term impact on contributors’ returns,” he stated.
