Members of a Muslim community affected by a violent incident at their mosque have renewed calls for justice and accountability, citing delays in investigations and the continued closure of the facility.

Speaking to the media after Eid prayers, Alhaji Alfa Anas Hamidu said the community has been struggling since the incident in December last year, which reportedly resulted in injuries, arrests and the closure of the mosque.

According to him, some suspects were arrested after the matter was reported to the authorities and victims received medical treatment. However, he claimed the suspects were later released while investigations continued.

“We went to the hospital and some of them were arrested, but before we knew, they had been released, saying investigations were ongoing. Since December last year, we have waited for justice, but up till today, we have not heard anything,” he said.

Alhaji Hamidu noted that the prolonged closure of the mosque has placed a burden on worshippers, who have had to conduct prayers under challenging conditions.

“The mosque has been closed and we do not know why. This situation is affecting us very badly. We are praying under the sun and during rainfall, yet people cannot leave the place because they still need to worship,” he stated.

He said the situation has caused both emotional and spiritual hardship for members of the community, who continue to gather for prayers despite the lack of a designated place of worship.

Despite their frustrations, Alhaji Hamidu said community leaders have consistently urged members to remain calm and avoid actions that could escalate tensions.

“We are telling our people to exercise patience and continue to live in peace. But sometimes, without justice, there can be no peace, and without peace, there can be no unity,” he said.

He appealed to the relevant authorities to expedite investigations into the incident, ensure accountability for those affected and facilitate the reopening of the mosque.

“We are calling on the authorities to do justice for us and reopen the mosque. The Muslim community is in pain, but we continue to remain peaceful and patient,” he added.

The community says it is still awaiting updates on the investigations as concerns grow over the continued closure of the mosque and the absence of a resolution to the matter.
