The Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu, Atta Issah, has called for calm following the deadly communal clash between residents of Damankunyili and Nyeshie that claimed one life and left several others injured.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 4, the MP described the incident as "profoundly sad and deeply shocking."

"The unfortunate incident has reportedly claimed the life of one person, left several others with serious injuries, and caused fear and anxiety within both communities," he said.

Mr Issah noted that Damankunyili and Nyeshie share a long history and urged residents not to allow the violence to divide them.

"Damankunyili and Nyeshee are sister communities that share a common history, culture, and destiny. It is therefore heartbreaking to witness such an unfortunate development between people who have lived together as one. Violence only brings pain, destruction, and setbacks to the development and progress of our communities. No disagreement is worth the loss of human life."

He appealed to residents, particularly the youth, to end the hostilities and embrace dialogue.

"I therefore make a passionate appeal to all residents, especially the youth, to immediately cease all hostilities and embrace peace, dialogue, and mutual understanding. I also urge the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, religious leaders, and all stakeholders in both communities to work tirelessly to calm tensions and promote reconciliation while allowing the appropriate state institutions to handle the matter."

The MP also called for a thorough investigation into the violence.

"I have full confidence in the security agencies to conduct thorough investigations and ensure that all those responsible for these criminal acts are identified and brought before the law. Justice must prevail, but it must be pursued through lawful means and not through acts of retaliation."

Mr Issah commended the Sagnarigu Municipal Chief Executive, Abdulai Imoro Gong, and the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) for their swift intervention and urged residents to comply with the curfew imposed on the affected communities.

"I also urge all residents to fully comply with the curfew imposed by the authorities, as it is intended to restore calm, protect lives and property, and prevent any further escalation of the conflict."

He expressed condolences to the bereaved family and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family, the injured persons, and everyone affected by this unfortunate incident. Let us all unite to restore peace, strengthen our bond of brotherhood, and work together for the continued development of our communities."
