President appoints Dr Abdul-Baasit Aziz-Bamba as Acting Director-General of Value for Money Office

President John Mahama has appointed Dr Abdul-Baasit Aziz-Bamba as Acting Director-General of the Value for Money Office, according to a statement from the Presidency dated Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

The appointment was made in accordance with Article 195(1) of the Constitution and Section 14(1) of the Value for Money Office Act, 2026 (Act 1172).

Dr Aziz-Bamba will serve in an acting capacity pending receipt of the constitutionally required advice of the Governing Board, given in consultation with the Public Services Commission.

Dr Aziz-Bamba is a Harvard-trained lawyer who, until his appointment, served as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Law.

The Value for Money Office is mandated to ensure that every cedi of public expenditure serves the public good.

According to the statement, his appointment marks an important step towards operationalising the Office, strengthening scrutiny of public spending, curbing waste and ensuring that public expenditure delivers tangible benefits to Ghanaians.

The statement was signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications.
