Man, 22, posing as bandit arrested over viral video allegedly causing fear and panic
The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with a viral video in which he posed as a bandit and made threatening remarks that caused fear and panic among the public.
The suspect, identified as Evans Puplampu, was arrested on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Ashaiman Community 22 following intelligence gathering and surveillance by the police.
The video, which circulated widely on TikTok, showed the suspect with his face covered and carried the caption, “We are starting from Ghana churches,” triggering widespread concern.

Police said the suspect admitted during interrogation that he was the individual in the video. He explained that he copied a similar trending pose on social media for fun and did not intend to cause harm or panic.
A Samsung Galaxy A15 mobile phone believed to have been used to create and share the video has been retrieved and kept as evidence.
The suspect remains in police custody assisting with investigations and is expected to be put before court.
