CSOs intensify calls for removal of EC Chair Jean Mensa

Tensions surrounding Ghana’s electoral processes have escalated as several prominent Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) intensify their demand for the removal of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa.
The CSOs claim that several controversial decisions made under her leadership have eroded public confidence in Ghana’s democracy.
Franklin Cudjoe, a leading advocate for electoral reforms, recently sought updates on a petition advocating Mensa’s removal from activist Osagyefo Oliver Barker-Vormawor.
Cudjoe emphasized the urgency of the matter, reflecting the growing frustration among CSOs.
In response, Barker-Vormawor confirmed that work on the petition has been ongoing, with refinements being made since Sunday morning.
He indicated that the document, which aims to comprehensively address the concerns about Mensa’s leadership, will be refiled on January 8, following its finalization.
The push for Mensa’s removal is rooted in allegations of bias, lack of transparency, and decisions that critics argue undermined the integrity of recent elections.
Detractors have cited instances during her tenure where the EC’s actions were perceived as unfair or unaccountable, sparking widespread public dissatisfaction.
As preparations for the petition continue, the CSOs reiterated their commitment to advocating for reforms that restore trust in Ghana’s electoral system, urging all stakeholders to prioritize fairness and transparency.
