Ghana’s envoy to South Korea visits hometown, explores deeper bilateral ties
Ghana’s Ambassador to South Korea, Kojo Choi, has paid a significant visit to his hometown in Chuncheon, marking a symbolic return to his roots while advancing diplomatic and cultural relations between Ghana and South Korea.
The visit, undertaken at the invitation of the Mayor of Chuncheon City, was described by the Ambassador as deeply personal and reflective of a full-circle moment in his life journey—from being born in the city to returning years later as Ghana’s representative.
During his stay, Ambassador Choi held high-level discussions with city authorities, focusing on opportunities for cultural and artistic exchange between Ghana and South Korea.
Key among the proposals explored was the establishment of a sister-city relationship, aimed at strengthening cooperation and fostering long-term partnerships between the two communities.
As part of his engagements, the Ambassador also interacted with students, where he shared his life story and encouraged them to pursue their ambitions with resilience and determination.
He highlighted the role Ghana has played in shaping his journey, emphasizing the importance of staying grounded in values and purpose.
The visit coincided with a military parade in Chuncheon, during which the Ambassador observed armoured vehicles and equipment adorned in red, gold, and green—the colours of Ghana’s national flag.
He described the moment as symbolic, noting that it underscored the potential for enhanced cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the area of defence and military modernization.
Ambassador Choi expressed appreciation to the Mayor and people of Chuncheon for the warm reception, as well as to Ambassador Kim Young-Chae, President of the Korea-Africa Foundation, for facilitating the visit.
He reaffirmed his commitment to deepening ties between Ghana and South Korea, with a focus on culture, business, and broader strategic collaboration.
