Korle-Bu Centres of Excellence hold workshop on governance and financial management
Three Centres of Excellence at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital—the National Radiotherapy, Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Centre, the National Cardiothoracic Centre, and the Urology and Nephrology Centre—recently organised a two-day workshop on governance and financial management for their management and staff.
The training was facilitated by legal and public financial management expert Prof Williams Abaayaawiem Atuilik, who provided participants with detailed insights into the Public Financial Management Act and its accompanying regulations.
Prof Atuilik highlighted that the workshop covered leadership protocols, risk management strategies, and the legal intricacies of public procurement.
He emphasised the importance of conducting all hospital operations transparently and within the confines of the law, particularly in the management of public funds.
Participants, which included the Directors, Core Management Teams, Unit Heads, and their deputies from the three Centres, were also guided through the Public Financial Management Regulations, equipping them with the skills needed to efficiently discharge their responsibilities and ensure proper resource stewardship.
Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many describing the session as eye-opening.
The training is expected to strengthen accountability, transparency, and operational excellence, positioning the Centres as benchmarks for good governance among public health institutions in Ghana.
