The Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboa, to substantiate allegations linking him and the Minority to cocoa smuggling activities.

The ultimatum follows claims by the Minister that the Minority’s recent tour of cocoa-growing communities was intended to encourage purchasing clerks to divert funds and facilitate the smuggling of cocoa from Côte d’Ivoire into Ghana—an act he said had led to arrests and seizures.

Mr. Annoh-Dompreh has strongly rejected the accusations, describing them as baseless and politically motivated.

He maintained that the tour was aimed at engaging cocoa farmers grappling with key challenges, including delayed payments, declining prices, and limited market access.

He cautioned against the use of national security agencies to intimidate political opponents, urging the Minister to focus on addressing the pressing concerns facing farmers rather than making unverified claims.

The Minority Chief Whip stressed that if no evidence is provided within the stipulated timeframe, further action may be considered, as tensions rise over the allegations.
