Ayawaso East by-election still green, Baba Jamal wins
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Baba Jamal, has won the Ayawaso East parliamentary by-election held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, reclaiming the seat for his party.
The by-election was organised following the death of the area’s Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure, in January this year.
Baba Jamal secured 10,884 votes to defeat his main rival, Yusif Ali Baba of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who polled 4,009 votes.
Independent candidate Mohammed Umar Sanda garnered 1,885 votes, while Ibrahim Idrissu obtained 43 votes and Kanor David secured 104 votes.
In total, 16,928 valid votes were cast, with 120 ballots rejected, bringing the overall votes cast to 17,048.
