Outgoing Member of Parliament for Hohoe Constituency, John-Peter Amewu, has expressed his gratitude to his supporters following his defeat in the just-ended December 7 general election.

In a statement, on Facebook, Mr. Amewu extended his appreciation to his campaign team, constituents, and well-wishers, reaffirming his dedication to the development of Hohoe even outside active politics.

Acknowledging the outcome of the election, Mr. Amewu described it as a testament to democracy.

“At long last, the battle for political power has ended, and Ghana, our beloved country, is the winner,”

Mr. Amewu commended the hard work and dedication of his campaign team, including key figures such as the campaign manager, constituency chairman, and other volunteers.

He noted that every effort had been made to secure victory, but the decision of the voters was final.

“I put forth every effort under my disposal to secure victory for our cause, but the final decision came from the thumbs of the voters. I respect their will and pray that God directs my successor to continue the good work we have been doing to take Hohoe to the promised land,” Mr. Amewu noted.

In a show of sportsmanship, the outgoing MP revealed that he had congratulated the newly elected MP, Efo Worlanyo Tsekpor, and pledged his support for the new leadership.

He called on his supporters to rally behind Mr. Tsekpor, emphasising unity in advancing the development of the constituency.

“This campaign was never about me but has always been about us, our community, and our collective desire for building Hohoe to the satisfaction of its citizens,” he said.

Mr. Amewu reflected on the progress made during his tenure, expressing gratitude for the support of the people of Hohoe, Alavanyo, Wli, Gbledi, Zongo, and Fodome, as well as members of the opposition NDC.

He pledged to continue contributing to Hohoe’s growth, even in private life, stating: “I am glad that by God’s grace I have improved the lives of our people with the opportunities available to me in active politics; and I am committed to continuing in the same vein even in private life.”

Despite the electoral loss, the outgoing MP remained optimistic about the future, urging his supporters to view the defeat as the beginning of a new chapter.

“Let us not consider our defeat as the end of our journey; it is just the beginning of a new chapter. The energy and passion demonstrated must continue to guide us as we forge ahead,” he encouraged.

Mr. Amewu also thanked his supporters for their unwavering belief and dedication, vowing to remain steadfast in service to humanity.

“We remain unshaken, and together, we will continue to fight for the progress and development that Hohoe deserves,” he added.
