The Member of Parliament for Weija Gbawe Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has praised President John Dramani Mahama for approving a multi-lateral visa agreement aimed at easing travel across African countries.

Describing the move as a “historic leap for continental unity,” Mr. Shaib said the agreement is expected to significantly transform travel, trade, and diplomatic relations across the continent.

The policy will allow citizens of participating African countries to move across borders without the need for traditional visa applications, which have often been costly and restrictive.

According to Mr. Shaib, the initiative will open up new opportunities for businesspeople, students, and tourists, while boosting intra-African trade and cultural exchange.

He noted that the agreement aligns with the broader integration agenda of the African Union, which seeks to promote unity, economic cooperation, and free movement among member states.

Mr. Shaib further highlighted the potential benefits for Ghana, stating that the country stands to gain both as a leader and beneficiary of enhanced continental connectivity.

He explained that reduced travel barriers would enable Ghanaian entrepreneurs and professionals to access new markets, build partnerships, and expand their networks across Africa.

At the same time, he said the policy would make it easier for visitors from other African countries to enter Ghana, thereby supporting growth in sectors such as trade, education, and tourism.

He made this commendation while speaking on day two of the Kwahu Business Forum held at Mpreaso in the Eastern Region

While acknowledging potential implementation challenges, including harmonising entry protocols and maintaining border security, Mr. Shaib expressed confidence that the long-term benefits would outweigh any initial difficulties.

He called on citizens and stakeholders to embrace the initiative, describing it as a transformative step toward a more connected, accessible, and united Africa.
