NDC Women’s Organiser reaffirms commitment to fight against illegal mining

The National Women’s Organiser of the governng National Democratic Congress, Dr Louisa Hanna Bissiw-Kotey, has reiterated the party’s commitment to protecting the environment and supporting efforts to combat illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

In a statement, Dr. Bissiw-Kotey emphasised the need for collective action in addressing the environmental challenges posed by illegal mining, describing the fight as a shared national responsibility.

She also commended Dr Mary Awusi for what she described as a sincere apology, noting that the gesture demonstrated maturity, responsibility, and a commitment to national unity.

Dr. Bissiw-Kotey further praised government interventions aimed at curbing illegal mining, stating that ongoing measures are beginning to yield positive results in protecting water bodies, forests, and communities.

While acknowledging that restoring degraded environments will take time, she said the progress made so far is encouraging and should be sustained.

 

She urged Ghanaians to continue supporting initiatives aimed at safeguarding the environment and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
