The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially opened nominations for its nationwide branch elections, setting in motion a major internal democratic process aimed at strengthening its grassroots structures.

In a statement signed by the party’s Deputy General Secretary in charge of Finance and Administration, Barbara Serwaa Asamoah, nominations will run from May 2 to May 16, 2026, across all branches of the party.

The exercise is expected to cover 40,647 branches within the NDC’s 276 constituencies nationwide, forming a critical part of the party’s reorganisation efforts ahead of future political activities.

Nomination forms will be available online from May 2 and can be accessed either individually or in bulk through the party’s designated platform.

Each form will cost GHS 20.00, while members are also required to be in good standing by settling their dues through approved payment channels, including a shortcode system and the party’s official website.

The party further announced that branch elections will be conducted between May 20 and June 30, 2026, urging members to approach the process with discipline and a sense of responsibility.

The NDC has also outlined mandatory resignation requirements for certain categories of members seeking to contest in the elections.

These include Ministers and Deputy Ministers of State, Chief Executive Officers and Managing Directors and their deputies, as well as Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).

Affected individuals are required to step down within specified timelines—April 30, May 14, and June 7, 2026—depending on the level of election they intend to contest.

According to the party, the directive is in line with guidelines approved by its National Executive Committee, aimed at ensuring fairness and maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.

The NDC has called on members to actively participate in the elections while upholding the party’s core values of unity, fairness, and discipline throughout the process.
