2026 FIFA WC: Asamoah Gyan tips Germany to win, backs Ghana as dark horse
Ghana football legend Asamoah Gyan has predicted a high-profile final between Argentina national football team and Germany national football team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, tipping Germany to emerge champions.
Speaking in an interview with OneFootball, the former Black Stars captain pointed to Germany’s experience and track record as key factors that could see them reclaim the title.
"Argentina and Germany are my picks for the World Cup final, and Germany to win," Gyan said.
While backing two of football’s traditional powerhouses, the former striker also expressed optimism about the prospects of the Black Stars, suggesting they could outperform expectations at the tournament.
Gyan, Africa’s all-time leading World Cup scorer, believes Ghana has the potential to emerge as one of the surprise teams when the competition kicks off across North America.
He also shared his view on the race for the Golden Boot, naming Kylian Mbappé as his favourite to finish as top scorer for the France national football team.
"Ghana will be the dark horse of the tournament, and Kylian Mbappé will be the top scorer,” he added.
The 2026 World Cup, to be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, will be the largest edition of the tournament to date, with Gyan’s early predictions adding to anticipation ahead of the global showpiece.
