Black Stars announce 26-man squad for 2026 World Cup, include Luckassen and Djiku replacement
The Black Stars have officially unveiled their final 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, with head coach Carlos Queiroz naming a blend of experienced players and emerging talents for the tournament.
Cyprus-based defender Derrick Luckassen has been included in the squad, replacing the injured Alexander Djiku in the final selection.
The squad announcement, made on Monday evening, features senior figures such as captain Jordan Ayew and midfielder Thomas Partey, alongside several younger players expected to make their mark on the global stage.
Jordan Ayew will be making his third World Cup appearance, while Fatawu Issahaku and Antoine Semenyo are set for their second tournament outings.
The list also includes young talents Marvin Senaya, Caleb Yirenkyi and Christopher Bonsu Baah, reflecting the coach’s emphasis on youth and depth across the team.
Goalkeepers Paul Reverson and Solomon Agbasi were dropped after a week in camp with the team in Wales.
The Black Stars will face Wales on Tuesday, June 2, in a friendly as part of preparations before travelling to Boston for the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada.
